Propanoic acid,2-(triphenylphosphoranylidene)-, methyl ester, chemical formula C23H21O2P, is an organic compound.

Nature:
Propanoic acid,2-(triphenylphosphoranylidene)-, methyl ester is a colorless liquid with a faint special smell at room temperature. It has a density of about 1.15 g/mL and a boiling point of about 374°C. It is soluble in organic solvents, such as ethanol and dimethyl sulfoxide, and practically insoluble in water.

Use:
Propanoic acid,2-(triphenylphosphoranylidene)-, methyl ester is widely used in organic synthesis, especially as an important intermediate for lithium-ion batteries and fluorescent dyes. It can also be used as an organic synthesis catalyst and two-photon absorption material.

Method:
Propanoic acid,2-(triphenylphosphoranylidene)-, methyl ester is prepared by a relatively simple method. A common preparation method is to react phenylphosphonic acid with formyl chloride to produce 2-(triphenylphosphino) propionic acid, which is then reacted with methanol to produce Propanoic acid,2-(triphenylphosphoranylidene)-, methyl ester.
